2025 was hard. Here’s what gives us hope.

Reflecting on 2025

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’
— Fred Rogers

For many physicians, 2025 was not an easy year. The pressures on healthcare grew heavier, the noise louder, and the space to speak or lead often felt smaller. And yet, when we looked closely, we saw the helpers — again and again.

This year, the Academy is deeply grateful for:

  • Our members, who continued to show up — renewing, engaging, and participating — a clear signal that apathy has not taken hold, and that our shared mission still matters.

  • The Academy EMS Protocols leaders and contributors, who have quietly and consistently upheld one of the Academy’s most enduring public-health contributions.

  • Physicians and advocates working together behind the scenes when legislation created new barriers — choosing collaboration and action over silence.

  • Our Editorial Committee, physicians who stepped forward to help educate, inform, and ensure that evidence-based medicine continues to have a voice.

  • Our Foundation donors, whose generosity has helped sustain integral community health projects during a time when many organizations were forced to scale back.

  • Our current and past leaders, whose commitment to this Academy — and to the health of our community — continues to guide and inspire us.

And finally, we are deeply grateful for all area physicians, who tirelessly give their all and more to their patients. This job is hard. We see you. We appreciate you. You are not alone.

Looking ahead to 2026, we carry this momentum with us. The challenges are real, but so is the resolve. With your continued engagement, the Academy will keep doing what it has always done best: bringing physicians together, protecting our voice, and serving our community with integrity and purpose.

With my greatest admiration and thanks, I wish you all the best for the coming year.
