Mandatory Reporting: Significant Legislative Update for Physicians & Practices

On December 20, 2024, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed into law significant reforms under Substitute Senate Bill 109, which substantially expands the mandatory reporting obligations for healthcare professionals and facilities in Ohio. These changes introduce new duties to report criminal conduct, sexual misconduct investigations, and certain criminal charges, while also increasing penalties for non-compliance. The law targets healthcare providers, including hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers, as well as individual licensees such as physicians.
