Academy Foundation Fills UpSpring Camper "Power Packs"

This summer, the Academy Foundation was proud to partner with UpSpring for their 6-week camp for children experiencing homelessness. Camp sites Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky host school-age kids to provide academic enrichment, learning and fun through various field trips and activities.

With food insecurity a top concern for children in the program, The Academy Foundation sponsored "Power Packs," food kits sent home with each camper on weekends-for all campers over the 6 week program.

We had the opportunity to visit UpSpring's camp site at Mercy Montessori, and were blown away by their truly wrap-around support-from buses picking up/dropping off campers, hiring on campers aging out of the program to be junior counselors, and one-on-one tutoring to ensure smooth transition back to school.

About Upspring

UpSpring has served children experiencing homelessness for over 26 years. As the Cincinnati region’s only non-profit exclusively serving the educational needs of homeless children and youth, UpSpring provides these students with the consistency needed to achieve academic success. UpSpring is unique
in that our focus is meeting the direct and immediate needs of children experiencing homelessness. Throughout the year, we are able to serve approximately 4,000 students in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. We do this through our summer day camps, after school programs, and year round resource center, providing homeless students with the consistency needed to achieve academic success and become well-rounded, active participants in their community.

UpSpring programs specifically serve school-age children (ages 5-17) experiencing homelessness in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. These children are all living below the federal poverty level, and represent all race/ethnicities.
